I lived in Hertfordshire for some time in my teens but have never been to Dore Abbey. As a girl I attended St. Catherine’s School in Athens, Greece, and the wheel was the image on our blazers. Her martyrdom was a grisly story!

Absolutely grisly! Interestingly, there are a few pubs across England called the Cat and Wheel with imaginative inn signs which, plausibly, are assumed to derive from Catherine’s Wheel. And then there’s the firework…
Unless I’ve made a spelling mistake this series of images is from HerEfordshire on the border with Wales and not HerTfordshire just to the west of London. Easy mistake to make and I’ve seen the odd printing error in guide books with this very same confusion!
